Dog eating dead rat

Hi,

I live in a rural area and this morning whne I was walking my dog, in the return I saw him keep his mouth closed very hard. Normally he was playing and trying to bite my hands and arms.

I thought he was tired and when I turned back saw the rat in his mouth, he started chewing it when I was away, when I get close took it to his mouth and kept it shut again. I wasn't able to make him leave it, I was also disgusted and didn't want to touch his mouth or the rat.

What should I do, is this normal and any risk of him and me getting infected somehow?

First dog and not have much experience. He has all the vaccines in time, he is 1 year old Golden Retriever. I'm open to all suggestions. Thanks

Does a raw diet help dogs with allergies? Becoming hopeless

I switched his food to Purina Pro Plan Focus Adult Sensitive Skin & Stomach Salmon & Rice Formula Dry Dog Food and he is currently taking Benadryl. Still scratching and licking like crazy. Eczema under his arms and groin area. Feel hopeless and hate seeing him like this. I'm fed up with vets. A bunch of useless clowns!

Any ideas what I should try next? Any success with a raw diet? Thank you
