Dog walking etiquette

So I was out walking my dogs this morning with my girlfriend and my dog stopped to poo. So I did what any responsible walker would do and picked up the poop from the persons yard. The only problem is, it was dark and I accidentally picked up the wrong dogs poo!! I knew immediately because it was cold and much smaller than my dogs. I couldn't see well so I just grabbed the first one I saw in the area. I decided to leave my dogs poo and take the other dogs. Is there a good one in one out rule. Doesn't matter that I didn't get my dogs poo but got some other? If I could get your ideas on my moral dilemma that would be awesome. Also when I was a bit further along on my walk I noticed that it was garbage day in my neighborhood so I threw the bag of poo in another persons garbage can by the street, was this wrong of me? Keep in mind there was still garbage in the the can and the garbage truck came just minutes after the drop. Please tell me what you think!
