Why is my dog's hind leg (interior) swollen?

Two weeks ago, I took my dog (2 year old boxer cross) for a run at the off leash park, a daily ritual. Towards the end of the run I noticed that the inside of his left leg was swollen. I took him to the vet where they did x-rays but did not find any breaks. He was put on anti-inflammatories and benadryl in case it was a bite and we've been putting a warm compress on it a couple of times a day. We've limited him to walks around the block, but the swelling is increasing and our vet is not sure of the cause.
