I dont care who dies in a movie, as long as the dog lives.
I have a 10 m/o dog and she is a irishwolfhound mix. I have a son who is almost 2. They get along so well and are always playing or napping together. She is very careful of him and she makes sure she doesnt trample my son. I even taught her a bunch of tricks from crawling pn tge floor to jumping threw a hoop! She is calm inside and a pleasant beast to be around. Outside OMG she jumps on my everyone, pulls my arm off, and cant pay attention to any command I tell her. She is a wild animal with no self control. Its going to be spring soon I would love to taoe her hiking with my son or have picnics in our yard. With this behaviour I am afraid we might just have to exlude her if she cant just relax outside. I even tried food treats to get her attention and that works until the treat is out of sight. Please help what do i do!?
Hi guys,
I have a real dilemma. I have a 1 year old pitbull and am trying to do everything to break their reputation. My dog is obedient, lovable, etc, but between the two times I've taken her to the dog park she's had issues. The first time she was attacked unprovoked by an Akita, which resulted in some punctures. I waited about 4 months to take her again. She did great with almost all dogs except those who don't initially welcome her. If a dog tenses their muscles up and looks through her she pursues/darts at their face and if they growl at her she will reciprocate. The first time this happened was when she was introduced to my moms dogs (three small terriers). They were standoffish, hair raised, growls, and that was the first time she reciprocated which led to snapping. Same thing happened when my neighbor was walking his chihuahuas. She was doing great until the older one got moody and started growling and standing its ground, this led to face darting and eventually snapping. She was also attacked while off the leash in my front yard when she was about 3months old by a small terrier which resulted in her bellying up and submitting.
She has 3 dog friends that she has had no issues with. One is small terrier, the other a boxer, and the third a golden doodle, so there is precedent of her behaving well with little dogs that treat her well.
So, how do I break this habit? It seems that due to some past events she is untrusting and short tempered with small dogs - which is understandable but absolutely unacceptable.
