#dog - #Share your dog rescue story with me!

Share your dog rescue story with me!

Hi, I wanted to know your rescue dog stories and share mine.

At the time I did not own a dog, I made a friend when I was at the hospital who, like me, was passionate about rescuing animals. She had three dogs, one of the newest was a difficult one. When I first met the dog, a scrawny, yet muscular pit bull, white with black blotches, named Jersey, she scared me.This dog was very intimidating when I first met her, snarling and barking at me.Once I was inside the house she did however start to warm up to me.However, she was not able to be alone with the other dogs and even keeping a eye on her, was difficult to keep in check( she was aggressive and tried instigating fights).Jersey was super, frantically hyper, to the point that we even suspected she was given amphetamines/ meth.Given her background it would not have been far fetched.Worst of all, she was very young, barely a year old.She came from a guy my friend knew from church who together with his son had gotten her for dogfighting. She was bred and trained to be a fighting dog.Rewarded for aggression and Iike we assumed given drugs to increase her aggressive tendencies. The son later actually admitted to injecting her with tiny mixtures of meth&low-grade cocaine My friend had this dog for three months before I met her.Shortly after I met Jersey a few more times a bad fight broke out between her and her older Lab/mix.It was bad and she was actually getting ready to take Jersey to be euthanized.I felt a instant bond with Jersey and although I did not know if I could help her, I convinced my friend to let me try to help and she agreed.I worked with Jersey every day, even lived with my friend for a month so I could train her.I took her on long walks by herself, then tried to reward her for peaceful behaviour with the other dogs.Slowly she became calmer and more predictable with the other dogs( her other dog was male and she rarely even bothered him at all) Eventually I even got her to the point that I could walk both dogs side by side, peacefully. Her older dog even tried to start fights on a few occasions and Jersey simply walked off and ignored it! Spending all this time with her, I truly loved her and I was getting ready to bring Jersey to my house. Problem was, that my landlord threatened to evict me.Due to her breed it was not permitted in my community.I offered to get her behaviour tested/ k9 good citizen, agree to keep her muzzled when I walked her, but I could not change her mind. I felt horrible for failing this dog.To this day I am sad about it.Athough my dog now is the best dog I 've ever had( a greyhound). While I m happy to have my dog, I 'll never forget about Jersey, the former fighter.Luckily, Jersey did find a great home, my friend got Jersey a home with a older Lady who did not have any other dogs and a large fenced in backyard/ a home that was owned by her. She also had Pit bull experience, and knew about her past.My friendship sourerd, so I do not know how Jersey is today, but I got to think at the very least I gave her a chance and helped her move on.I hope she is happy. This event changed me profoundly in that I stopped believing all Pit bulls are mean/ dangerous and never change. It made me have a passion for the breed and I hope I get another chance to save one of these dogs from the horrible world of dog fighting, because I am not a professional dog trainer, but with enough dedication and love I managed to turn a dangerous dog into a wonderful pet, so if someone like me can do that, anyone with enough passion can do the same thing.

#dog - #I hate him with a passion

I hate him with a passion

I have a 2.5 year old Jack Russell. I adopted him when he was a year old, his previous owner surrendered him because of medical issues. Anyway when I adopted him I didn't work and my boyfriend did. Everything was fine he was really needy but I didn't mind because I never had anything to do besides pay him attention.

I got a job the following January after we adopted him (in October) and we would leave him in the room and my boyfriend's mom would let him out to use the bathroom. But every time we would come back our room was a disaster. He would poop on the bed tear up my makeup drag all the clothes out of the bin. After a while we learned his breed is destructive when left alone, so we started to lock him in his cage and it was amazing. I quit my job around April and things went back to normal.

Flash forward I got a new job in October and everything was okay since his family had a backyard and he could play with the other dog. So I would let him out before we went to work and get him when I came back. It worked but of course he still found ways to mess stuff up. He constantly got sick from eating weeds and whatever else.

March (like two weeks ago) my boyfriend and I finally got our first apartment. We were so happy and stoked... until we realized the little monster would mess everything up. Still we couldn't wait to show him his new home. He liked it but everywhere we went he would shoot up and follow. His whining became increasingly frequent and our freedom and excitement turned to dread and sorrow. My boyfriend has a job where he has to be gone for periods at a time and my job I work from 4am-2pm. He figured out if we leave him in the bathroom in his cage with the tv in he'll be okay. After all we use to do that just in our bedroom.

So for a few days it worked he was amazing and things were great. We found this awesome plan... or so we thought. That Friday (last Friday). I come home excited to see him and I walk in and there's poop all over him, his bed, the cage. He pulled my towel into his cage and started tearing it apart. His nose was bleeding because he had shoved it through his cage gate (I'm guessing). I take him out and he's covered in poop. I wanted to smack the life out of him. Normally I understand accidents happen... but I took him a the longest walk before work and he wanted to act like he didn't have to go. I was even late for work because it took him 20 minutes to decide to pee. Anyway I just clean him off and throw away his bed because it was beyond repair( that's the 5th bed he's destroyed). But I shrug it off to he was rushed and it was an accident.

The next day I leave for 3 hours, come home it's the same thing. I don't even yell, I just pick him up bathe him and take him out. The following hours I use researching what I can do to make him feel better and to stop him from his actions. That night I take him on a 30-40 minute walk and everything was great, he didn't use the bathroom but I figured it was because I took him not too long before. However when I woke up I roll over and see little brown marks everywhere. I'm confused, until I see a huge pile of shit on my pants.

He continues to wake me up to use the bathroom but when I take him he just stares at me!!! He knows how to use the restroom he goes every other time. But every time I take him in the morning or at night he refuses to go and then uses the bathroom all over himself.

I've grown a strong disliking towards him and I feel bad because he use to be my best friend. I even made an instagram for him lol. But now every time I see him I want to throw him. And every time I say I want to give him away everyone looks at me like I'm heartless, but I feel like he's still young, he doesn't deserve to be hated for his whole life. He is a sweet dog but I'm just tired and fed up with him.

I woke up to take him to the bathroom this morning and same thing. But he started acting weird in his cage so I got up and took him again and still nothing. Right now he's currently in his cage in the living room because I can not look at him without wanting to scream.
