an old lady with a yoga mat knocked on our door with this hecking cute puppy in her arms, saying she found her in the parking lot across the street. my mom and her talked for a bit and we ended up keeping the dog. i have no clue what breed she is, i don't think i've seen a dog like her before.
Today I brought my dog to an enclosed dog park.
As I entered I immediately had a suspicious a women kept hovering around her pitbull she was on the phone and said she always gets nervous when her dog is around other to her friend.
But i gave her the benefit of the doubt. Moments later her pitbull attacked my dog. My dog was not in the offence so I grabbed her dog by the coller so she would get her dog. I then got bit
After i broke it up i noticed i was spraying out blood.
Im still at the hospital waiting in line.
How should i approach this?
Hello :). Recently my wife and I adopted a sweet Doxie-Pin named Remus. We already had a 3 year old mini beagle named Daisy. Daisy has always been super sweet to people and scared of most dogs except for my sister-in-law's Maltese. We knew it would be difficult for Daisy, because she has always been the princess of the house. That said we have been making sure she knows she isn't being replaced by doing everything in the book. Over the last week of having Remus she has certainly warmed up to him and has started tolerating being around him, but you know, puppies will be puppies.
Her behavior is mostly what seems to be frustration aggression with some jealously mixed in. When he sneaks by us and gets her toys she really doesn't seem to mind. Even when he tries to eat her food before we wrangle him up she just stands there and watch. So I see no food or toy aggression at all. She doesn't try to get in between us and him. Basically she just keeps to herself. Her personality really hasn't changed much, but she growls at bites at him a lot. She never really bites him, but she does put her mouth on him. He's yelped a couple times out of fear, but we make sure to step in if things go too far. Hopefully we are handling it correctly. We allow her to correct him when he is being annoying. Sometimes though, he will take off running around like a crazy and this seems to irritate her. She chases him all over, growling and snapping at him but never biting. She's rolled him a couple times. It would concern us more if she was a big dog, but she's only 12 pounds to his 5.
Ultimately it doesn't feel like cause for concern, but I really want to understand Daisy's behavior so I can help her cope and keep him from learning her behavior and using it later in his life. Any suggestions are much much appreciated. Thanks!
So my roommate's dog won't voluntarily eat. We leave food out all day but he won't touch it until we make him. Usually it's around the time someone is eating dinner. We have to take the bowl from its normal place against the wall, move it closer to his bed and leave it there. He'll stare at it for several minutes and then maybe get up to eat. Most times we have to sit on the floor, put a few bits on the floor, he'll grab those, we'll put a few more out, he'll grab those and then eventually come to the bowl himself. The past couple of nights he's been a bit more stubborn, eating lying down in his bed (which I don't think is good for him and my roommate needs to not condone this behavior). What do you think we can do to get him to eat normally? If anything? We changed his bowl from a metal bowl to a plastic one, thinking that was bothering him. But he still fusses.
Hi all, my dog passed last year and I'm finally ready to get a new dog.
I've had German Shepherds my whole life but would like some other breed options to consider that don't shed as much.
-I prefer larger dogs.
-Minimal shedding if possible. (But please recommend any breed)
-I live in Georgia for now but will be relocating to Indiana at the end of the year so the breed needs to tolerate the temperature there.
-The house I am moving to is on a 4.5 acre lot that is gated and fenced all around so if the breed has decent watchdog traits that would be better (just looking for to bark and alert me if there is someone/something on the property). All my previous German Shepherds were backyard bred/from puppy mills so did not exude typical German Shepherd traits. They would bark at anything except the doorbell or someone pulling into the drive way.
-I do a lot of cross country road trips and hiking so a dog with the energy and personality to keep up would be ideal.
-All my past dogs were rescues but had a multitude of issues so I'm looking to get a puppy from a reputable breeder this time around.
