Help please... The previous owner wants my dog back!

Recently bought a new dog, his name is Ringo and he's just over a year old. He is absolutely amazing. I spent aaaaaages scouring the Internet obsessively for the perfect rescue dog who would fit in with us and our life perfectly.

And I really did find the perfect dog. We paid £350 for him and took him home the day we met him.

His previous owner had explained she had breast cancer and her husband was very ill. So they were usually only at home 2 days a week max and in hospital a lot. They said they were very very sad about it but they know they can't look after him.

They only live 40 mins away, I said she can come and see him as often as she likes etc.

Anyway a week on, I've used my last holiday for the year from work to bond with him and train him and bought all his stuff.

I DID feel heartbroken for her.... BUT!!

Day 2 of him being here we found he was infested with fleas. Had to treat him and sort it all out. Not a big deal.

Then... I noticed the woman has forged his most recent Vaccinations date... Meaning he is unvaccinated and she knows we were planning on taking him traveling In our camper van round Europe so very dangerous...

A few other little things don't add up but I'm aware of how lengthy this is getting.

She has text this morning saying she is heartbroken and wants him back. I have been texting her about how upset she has been since yesterday but now she has asked if we will give him back.

So what do I do.

Does he stay or does he go? I'm so upset. I actually got him as my emotional support dog as I have recently been struggling with mental health and attempted suicide. He was my little light at the end of the tunnel and he has been like magic.

I don't know what would be the right thing to do
