I'm on a mission Trip so I do not have the right things to remove a tick. There is a homeless dog with some ticks and I removed one and can't tell if the head came with it or not. Is it better to leave the tick in or take it out with my hands and have the chance of leaving the head in? (These dogs are not strays, they are very friendly)
So my dog is about seven years old, we've had her since she was a puppy. She is mostly normal and happy and healthy but she doesn't eat...
Well that is kind of a lie, she will only eat under these very specific circumstances. a) my mother(and only my mother) is about to take her for a walk b) my mom has shoes and a coat on c) my dog has her leash on.
I've never met a dog act like this, she doesn't eat her food if my mom has gone away. We've tried every brand of food, even homemade. She has done this all her life and no one knows why.
Im mostly just wondering if anyone has any ideas why or has had a similar experience. Thanks in advance
My boyfriend and I are doing research on finding him the perfect dog.
We are a dog experienced home, we've both had dogs our whole lives, and I currently have a 4 year old working border collie and have extensive experience with herding dogs. I got the dog as a 3 month old, at about the same time that my BF and I got together.
Boyfriend needs a companion. My BC is very, very attached to me and while my partner ADORES him, BC could give a shit about him and it truly crushes BF. We've tried extra bonding, training, etc. BC respects him, gives way to him and follows commands perfectly whether I'm there or not. It's just a matter of not being His Person.
He has so much love and wants a little sidekick to pal around with the same way that I have my BC.
He wants a smaller dog that will be happy to hang out on the couch with him, go for lots of car rides, and will be game (within physical reason) for the occasional hike or day at the park. Dog will be able to spend most of the day with us, not need to be left home alone for long. Border collie is pretty much a 24/7 copilot.
Exercise needs are easily handled (we are used to the Border Collie!), capacity for obedience is a must (this will be his first experience training (will be working with a trainer!) , and I dont want the experience to be miserable for either of them/minimal intervention from me), grooming/shedding needs are no problem, (Again. We live with a BC.) and of course, we are aware that socialization and source of the animal is key no matter what breed.
We are just looking for a direction to be pointed in.
No breeds that are known for health issues. No pugs, no Weiner dogs, no large breeds please. He really wants something small enough to hold and cuddle.
We are currently looking into adopting a Norwich/Norfolk Terrier, if anyone has any ideas or input on that!
TLDR; experienced home looking for a small dog breed. Loving, loyal, active and cuddly. No breeds with obvious health issues from overbreeding.
My doggo was hit by a car going about 100Km/h on the road at night. He barely survived, considering he was lying in a shallow drain while it was heavily raining for about a whole day while we searched everywhere above. Couldn't move at all for a few days. Given the severity of the crash, amazingly, he didn't break a single bone. Now he is back to full health, but there are some major changes. His bark is extremely shrill now, considering it was quite deep before. Also he drools all over the place. Now I cannot let him in, because he goes to his favorite place on the couch, and it gets covered in thick slimy drool. My question is: can I do anything about this or is it permanent
