Is it possible to own a Labrador and work 40 hours a week?
I graduate from college in December and really want to get a lab puppy. I've read up on training, but haven't seen anything regarding whether or not I can leave the pup home while I work. My anticipated job allows for an hour lunch so I could go home and walk it. I just want to make sure that I'm not in over my head on owning a dog.
This is the first time I'm actually recognizing how fast I am making my life go. Between graduation, full time employment, and possible engagement, I'm yearning for stability. My last dog died when my parents got divorced and more than anything, I want to prove to myself that I'm not my parents and I can have a happy life. I feel like once I graduate I can begin the process by getting a puppy.

Adopted Ridgeback is aggressive
About 6 months ago my boyfriend and I adopted a male ridgeback mix. He is about to be 2 years old and is the best dog in almost every way. Loves to cuddle, play, and gets along great with our 11 month old female shepard mix. Sound perfect right? But in the last couple of months we have noticed he is dog selective... first it started with only other unaltered males, then to any dog he met that was not submissive (do the stare down and if they dont back down start attacking) and now we cannot go on walks because he finds any medium/large sized dog near us a threat. He has not bit (mostly just pushing with his body) any other dogs yet but he does look pretty scary for the other dog owner im sure...
(Have also noticed some aggressive fear towards men with hats or men walking with things in their hands. Especially when I walk him instead of my boyfriend)
It just stresses me out because I like the go hiking and such off leash with my dogs and if another dog comes near he may start a fight. We also live in an apartment complex with a large shared dog park but he instantly attacks a few of the dogs so sometimes we lose play time from having to leave.
The people who had him before us lived in an RV and were terrified of even walking him so I am sure he was not socialized. But he is so nice to our other pup Ruby. The old owners also did not neuter him.. we did not right away because he was not showing behavior issues and our female dog is spayed. I made an appointment to have it done next week. Does anyone have experience with this ending aggression? I read some places that it could be sexual frustration but it seems more like dominance fighting.
I read that his breed can naturally be dog selective, I just dont want him being as reactive to other dogs and to stay calm. We have started having him sit and and then lay down until he is calm when he gets aggressive.
Any advice would be very helpful.
