I'll preface this by saying as I get older my patience with people has dwindled and I have no problem being a dick to people I feel are inconsiderate. I also realize at times I may be too quick to do this and may be over reacting occasionally.
If I go to the dog park.... I understand things will happen. Dogs get wound up and you may get jumped on or dogs may get aggressive. I understand this.
However if I'm walking into the park and trying to walk to a corner away from everyone. If your damn dog is jumping on me while I'm obviously trying to control him and make him stop. If he repeatedly jumps up trying to take a ball out of my hand... come get your fucking dog. If I have to ask whose dog this is and ask you to make him stop. Yes I'm going to be a dick about it. I accept dogs will jump occasionally. I don't accept you standing there socializing and not saying a damn thing to your dog.
Adopted at 8 weeks, hes very mouthy. Crate trained and normally sweet. But when he gets really excited he bites hands and feet. He lunges at them. My hands, arms and feet are bloody from his razer sharp puppy teeth. Is this normal puppyhood or is something wrong. He's very smart, already sits and lays down on command.
Hey all, My wife and I adopted a rescue dog (mixed Canaan) two days ago. He's about one year old and incredible, much less problematic than we expected and bonding with him was a snap. One thing that worries us is his stool - soft and SUPER smelly, to the point where we both struggle not to throw up when picking it up... Any suggestions as to what we could do to help him with that? (Also the sly bastard switches from his bed to the sofa when we are asleep, but that is hardly as bad. We just want the little guy to be healthy!) Thank you!
Substitute "pet" with dog and follow me please.
The argument that pets are luxuries to be afforded only when one can afford to take care of them. That's probably reasonable for the majority of working people but in the context of all people I would suggest it's less an issue of "the more you make the more you can afford a pet" and more so a barbell effect considering that pets for a lot of people are less a luxury and more of a necessity and part of their support structure.
If I were homeless, I would want a dog. A partner to get through the tough times with. The same is true as a middle income individual that "can afford to take care of a dog", but what does that mean? Could I afford to pay for cancer treatments for a long time? Probably not. Not being homeless and keeping my dog on his flea meds, does that mean I could judge a homeless person on their ability to take care of their dog? Those without means need a companion more than others, and that's my point. Dogs are more than pets for a lot of people.
Should that mean anyone with greater means should judge my ability to take care of a dog?
Dogs have been man's best friend since before anyone could judge someone for being able to afford taking care of one in the personal finance sense.
I'm really stuck between a Papillon and a Pomeranian.
I want a medium energy dog, that will be happy going on runs and hiking, but will be happy being a lapdog as well.
I also want to do intermediate training with this dog, disk work, agility, and obedience. People have been telling me any dog can do these things, But it seems Poms are not as healthy as Papillons tend to be?
I see Paps in agility and getting a lot of titles.
Can any one give me recommendations?
This is my first time training a dog this extensively.
