Hello! Not sure where exactly to post this, but I have an important question about my grandmother's dog.
So, a little backstory - my cousin adopted a pug that was meant to be shared responsibility by her and her mom. Then literally a few months later, cousin moves to another state and her mom moves to another town (and is arrested for stupid stuff and generally doesn't have a great life setup right now) and her apartment isn't dog friendly.
What's happened now is that they have left the dog with my grandmother and great aunt who live together. They LOVE the idea of the dog and literally fawn all over him and tell complete strangers about him (like they buy bumper stickers about loving their "granddog") but do not take care of him at all - they can both barely walk so this dog basically just goes outside once a day and just sits around the rest of the time. He always looks so sad every time I visit, and a lot of times they will call me to come take him out. He's been with them probably about six months and he's gotten significantly fatter, his nose is not wet - it is cracked, and he has lost all interest in playing with toys when I try to play with him.
I should also mention that I am only visiting the area my grandmother lives so I cannot take care of the dog. Unfortunately my aunt and cousin dumped this dog on my great aunt and grandmother (who just had a heart attack) and they are now obsessed with him. They couldn't take care of him before - they really can't take care of him now.
What should I do? I don't think I'm being dramatic but I really think this dog deserves a better life! Just looking for help or advice. Thanks!
