Girlfriend/Roommate brought a dog home

Came home from work to a new shelter dog who is super underweight but super sweet and nice; however, she smells so bad I had to take my bedding out of the room. I have no idea when to bathe her and am pretty upset with the funk. I know it is not her fault, and maybe she even feels dirty. I just do not want to make her scared or upset with a forced bath. What should I do? When can I bathe her?

My mini dachshund is 3 years old, and he's known me since he was a puppy. Although primarily my grandfather's dog, I did raise him and have now taken him in since my grandfather's passing. About a month ago, when I came home from a friend's, the dog (Dutch) smelled my friends dog on me and went ballistic. Showing me his teeth, barking at me, growling at me. Since, he's had similar behavior and seldom shows me love. He hates me. He used to be my best buddy. What can I do to assert dominance? What can I do to get my little guy back?
