Dogs,  Why Do We Live Together---In the United States alone there are over 55 million family dogs.There are more American dogs then there are French men and women. Is this nuts?  It just does not seem logical to invite a carnivore to share our homes.But many of us do. There are reasons why so many of us choose to treat animals with big teeth, that bite, as part of the family.  A dog will be with you for around 12 to 15 years.  It's pretty simple to see that dogs are useful to us. A dog is a sociable companion. Just think of the difference between returning to an empty home and coming back to a wagging tail. Dogs stir up the dead air of emptiness and they do a lot more. Carrying on a tradition set by their wolf ancestors, dogs, even the smallest, protect us. In surveys,about75 percent of American dog owners say they feel safer when their dog is around. Even the smallest dogs help us to feel safe by barking.-----So before you get your dog, remember that you must make a commitment that will likely last more than a decade. Make sure you are willing to take on the cost and bear the responsibility that a dog entails.  Consider the space you have,  Male or Female,  The advantages of a puppy, rather than an adult dog. It is a good deed to adopt a dog from a shelter or a rescue organization.
