My Dog Doesn't Play With Other Dogs
I have a 7 month old female Belgian Malinois. I've had her since she was 7 weeks old. And have always socialize her with other dogs. She's not aggressive towards them she just doesn't want to play. Sometimes she will chase a dog but always comes right back to me. She use to not do this. I use to have to beg her to get on the leash.
We have an everyday routine First thing in the morning when the dog park is empty I take her there and we do the obstacles (a frame, jumping bars, tunnels) and she loves it! Then we either go on a 7 mile hike or we go to the beach (sometimes both) Then I let her rest for an hour at home while I work (my job is online) Then we go to the dog park. And she will just follow me the whole time. Sometimes she will sit by the jumping bar and just stare at me wagging her tail.
She will keep bring me sticks (I don't use treats when we do the obstacle I use a ball or stick because she's very toy driven) I try to ignore her because the other dogs always want to play with her but she's just not into it most of the time.
She's not aggressive towards the dog but if the dog won't stop pushing her to play she will nip at them and the dog usually stops after that.
Now here's the weird part when my boyfriend takes her to the dog park she doesn't act like this. He says she plays with the other dogs or usually just plays by herself but doesn't try to give him sticks or do osbticles and he says he has trouble getting her to leave the park. But when I tell her "Let's go home" she darts to the gate and sits there waiting for me.
Am I doing something wrong or is this behavior normal? Should I force her to play with other dogs or just let her do the obstacles? When we go to the beach and dog comes she loves playing with the dog! She will chase them and wrestle but never goes far from me and always comes up to me, but at the dog park she's only into me.
