Dog cruciate ligament surgery WWYD
I have a 3.5 year old boxer/mastiff mix who has injured his cruciate ligament in one of his rear legs. He's a big boy at 42kg. Quotes for surgery vary but we are looking at about 3.5k. I've been reading up and been told it's quite likely his other leg will likely go as well. Money is a little bit of an issue but we could probably do it but I just worry about the cost if the other leg goes too. He's a highly active dog and I worry the recover time will drive both of us insane. He is not food or toy motivated AT ALL so I think it's going to Be super tough to keep him occupied and calm while recovering if we do go ahead with surgery. We currently have had him resting at home for a few weeks and the limp doesn't seem to be improving although he doesn't look like he is in pain. Does anybody have experience with not operating? How did your dog do? Is it selfish to consider putting him to sleep? Sorry for all the questions, I just want to make sure I make the right decision.
