Looking for suggestions on my food problem
Long story, sorry. Adopted Lucy Dec 2016 from Texas rescue. She had been dumped in a garbage dump at approx. 3 weeks old. She and her 5 litter mates were very sick, worms, fleas, weak. They were rehabilitated and treated for worms multiple times over the next 4 months until healthy enough to adopt. She came to us finishing an antibiotic. We initially didn't change her food, but she got bloody, mucus diarrhea. The vet says give boiled chicken and rice, so we did. The bad diarrhea continued. More antibiotics were prescribed, we also gave probiotics, finally when we changed from boiled chicken to turkey, her poop was normal about 12 hours later. So, she can't have chicken. We found a good limited ingredient turkey based kibble for her and I mix it with Honest Kitchen Kindly (dried veggies.) She is always somewhat itchy, so we also put some fish oil in her food each day and it helps. Fast forward to May 2018. She is starting to refuse her food, sniffs it and walks away. She is otherwise healthy, energetic, playful, so this is not sickness, it appears to be boredom. I purchased carefully selected canned food and put one spoonful with her kibble and she loves it and eats great. But, every kind I have tried makes her itchy after a few days. I tried changing out the dried veggie mix for canned pumpkin, she ate it for a few days, then refuses to eat. I went back to the dried veggies, normal kibble, and add a spoonful of canned tuna, she will eat it, and no itching with tuna. I have also tried two other kibbles which she likes for a day or two, then sniffs and walks away. She appears to be 1) A very picky eater and 2) Has some big food sensitivities to skirt around like a minefield. I'm looking for other food ideas so I incorporate the nutrition she needs, avoid what makes her itch, and keep her interested in eating. Also considering going raw with her, but it appears chicken is a big thing for raw eaters. I believe that all of the very early medications she had likely affected her with the sensitivities. If I leave her bowl out, she will eventually come eat about 7 hours later. Any suggestions welcome!
