How Bad is Science Diet?
So I am currently feeding my dogs Fromm. I have been feeding different varieties of Fromm for at-least 5 years now the main reason I like Fromm is because of all the different protein sources and how when I switch between them we have no tummy upsets. I do this because my oldest aussie is some what of a brat and will not eat the same bag of food more than two times in a row he will literally go on strike and just will not eat. I understand I would not want to eat the same food everyday for the rest of my life either so I do change it up for him. I started going to a new vet due to a move who on their paper work asks to put down the brand of food I use. When we went back to the examination room and the vet was doing all the normal stuff she asked me about Fromm she had never seen that brand before. When I started telling her about it as soon as I said it was family owned and corn, wheat, and soy free she stopped me and said it wasn't a good food and I should switch to science diet. When I said I didn't like science diet I prefer to stay whats working well with my dogs she asked my why I didn't like it. I told her that they use cheaper stuff and charge the same as higher end foods and she asked me what the cheaper ingredients were I told her the things like the corn and she told me corn is important in a dogs diet that it provides vitamins they needed. She then told me that with Fromm being such a small company that they didn't have the access to all the nutritionist that Science Diet had and with that Science Diet was more researched and a better food. She also told me that switching my dogs food when they got bored would cause them to hav GI issues later to which she couldn't tell me what GI issues it would cause. Now I will say I do feed my older cat Science Diet, but yet again she is 14yrs been eating it her whole life and its always worked well for her and she refuses to even touch anything else so I don't change it. My younger cat eats Fromm cat food and she seems to look and act just as healthy as my older cat. With the two cats being on different diets and seeming to do just as well it now has me confused. I am not sure anymore what makes good foods vs bad foods and now its making me think if my new vet is right or if she is just trying to be pushy with science diet. Now I have been confused on should I change dog food or just keep doing what I am doing.
