Degenerative Mylopia?
I live with my younger sister and our single parent mother. My sister was declared primary owner of our pets, one male and one female german shepherds, so she could learn some responsibility with caring for animals. Shes had them for three years. Recently, one of the shepherds suddenly lost the use of their hind legs. My sister, like myself, had no idea what happened. She witnessed it, and it 'seemed degenerative' because the dog slowly could not stand minute by minute, wayward walking until absolutely nothing.
I assumed it was a spinal disease called Degenerative Mylopia after researching, i think is thats name. My sister disagreed. My sister decided, she would give the dog 1 week to gain back the use of its hind legs or the dog has to be killed because she has no time to take care of a disabled, is her thinking. During the one week, she did not bathe the dog, it defacated on itself several times, and all my sister did was wrap the dogs lower half in a cloth and says "what you want me to do?!"
A week past. The dog never got back the use of its hind legs and my sister called her step father to bring lethal poison for the dog to drink. Her and her father (because she has a different father), dug a hole and buried the dog. I was not at home at that point in time and when I got home, she explained to be she "wasn't gonna go through that" with regards to taking care of a disabled animal, and because the dog did not squirm in the last moments of death while being forced to drink poison, my sister believes the dog "wanted to die".
This may sound ridiculous but it did happen. I'm sorry that it seemed rushed I wanted to get the most important parts out.
Aside from all of that happenimg, and more unmentioned, I feel like I could have done more too. Despite her being the primary owner, to feed, bath and take care of the dogs, I feel I could have done something because it's very sad and terrible how it all happened. Please leave your opinion. Should my sister have pets at all after thus experience?
