Getting over this hump(ing)
I've encountered many dog owners (and non-owners) who get embarrassed when they see dogs humping each other. The general reaction of these people would be to break up the dogs' activity.
Here are my thoughts: dogs are animals and they hump. The humping is not always sexual — sometimes it's dominance, other times it's play. I am a dog owner myself and my dogs have been humpers and humpees (not real words, but you get what I mean) and I think it's their way of living out their pack mentality. I let my dogs be, as long as they're not getting hurt, they can hump all they want. But not all dog owners think the same way.
One of my dogs, who is an alpha (he likes to hump), is the sweetest dog. But he gets misunderstood as an unruly, wild-mannered dog just because he does it in public.
What are your thoughts on this? Should we just let the dogs be or should I start curbing my pup to live the ways we humans do?
