Do I get a 2nd dog??
Hi all! At an adoption event I fell in love with a dog who needs a home. I already have a dog, who has some health concerns, though they are not at all contagious. She's my absolute world and we truly have the strongest bond imaginable. She is always on my lap, following me around the house, and she more feels like an extension of myself rather than a pet. When I think about getting a 2nd dog, I feel a little worried she will feel jealous or replaced. I also don't ever want to make another dog feel like it comes 2nd to my girl. Does everyone naturally love all their dogs equally? Is there room for 2 equally strong and inseparable bonds?? Both dogs are around the same size (under 15 lbs), are each suspected of being half Chihuahua, and the potential new dog is male. I admit this isn't the most perfect timing for adding a new dog (wasn't considering it before I met this good-boy and heard his heart wrenching story), but I do have the love and time availability needed to provide a good home. I should also mention that often, I watch a relatives dog while he works shift work. I suspect it will feel like I'm responsible for 3 dogs....which sounds ideal until we all need to get in and out of a car to go somewhere haha! Any advice is welcomed....very on the fence!
