#dog - #Germán shepherds/Alsatians

Germán shepherds/Alsatians

My other half has a 2yr old female GS, had her from a puppy, no adverse incidents such as her being attacked etc, and is fine with us in the house however she is SO aggressive/reactive with every other dog and person she doesn't know outside the house, or even inside if they come here. To me, this isn't normal - I've never had a GS but I have had dogs for years and grown up with them. This is his first one and he got her before I met him. He works full time, and so most the day the dog is in the house alone. She did go to puppy classes apparently but he doesn't do any formal training with her and lets her do what she wants in the house in terms of no boundaries.. I don't agree with any of this, especially with a dog of this breed - they're working dogs that need stimulation, exercise and a purpose from what I understand? Again, as I said before I have grown up with dogs and have one of my own but have never had this breed. My question relates to her being SO aggressive/reactive to everyone and it's got to the point where she has bitten a child and parents reported it to the police. As a result she now has to be kept on a lead and muzzle at all times for the rest of her life. I was mortified by all of this. Is this normal for the breed? I feel it's not ok or normal for any dog to be like this.. he didn't get any papers with her and from what he says I suspect the 'breeders' were just put to make money - there were no hip scores or anything like that and he didn't even know it was a 'thing' when getting a puppy. I on the other hand always do my homework throughly and am happy to wait for the right pooch to come along, be it puppy or rescue. My worry is, could this aggression be a result of poor breeding? Her bio sister is the same but worst and has bitten me on one occasion, leading to puncture marks round my arm/wrist. He just makes excuses for both the dogs and acts like it's normal. I don't think it is and it's getting to be a real issue for me. I'd appreciate anyone's input/thoughts thanks!
