ChewToys For Older Dogs
Hi everyone, I have a 10 yr old Lab Pointer mix with more gums than teeth. But he has just enough teeth to nibble little holes in his bed till I have to throw it away. I really want to find an alternative before he turns his attention to carpet or something else I would like any tips or ideas anyone has.
Things I've Tried:
- Bully Make: This was my first initial discovery that he's not a super chewer. Some of the toys were super tough for him. He would sniff it, then either walk away or give up after a while. The bones he would get a couple of chews out of it, but I think the plastic then would hurt his gums.
- Whimzees: These were our go-to for a while till one day my SO noticed that his gums were bleeding from the Hedge Hogs spikes. (We buy the non-spiky one now)
- Stuff Toys: The longevity of these don't seem to last. He loves to nibble on the ends and then accidentally consumes it and throws up.
- Rope Toys: I stopped buying these after I saw a post of a dog consuming the rope and it ripping up its intestines.
- Horns: these work .. but not all the time. I had to give away a horn to a friend after two years. My dog never took interest in it.
