My doggo was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma...
Three weeks ago my doggo, Adonis my golden shepherd, hurt himself while doing his duty in the backyard. He started eating grass so I called for him to get in, if I just let him eat it, he'll puke all over. He was galloping in and suddenly started crying and limping. I thought he stepped on something, so I started searching his pads, feeling his leg, looking all over, and I couldn't find anything.
I set up a vet visit the next day and was told it could be a minor fracture. They offered pain meds and anti inflammatory meds and said after he finishes them, if he isn't better I should come back for xrays.
While on his medication, he seemed to be doing better. Putting more weight on his bum leg, being more "energetic" as much as he could be on crate rest lol
After the medication was done, he quickly went down hill, like when he first hurt himself. I took him in Saturday morning for xrays and upon checking in was informed my regular vet wouldn't get to view the xrays until Monday, which I was already aware of.
They finally called Adonis' name and took him back. It seemed like it took forever and they brought him back to me. They said if I would like to know anything, but from a different vet that was in, they could tell me in 15 minutes. So I agreed to wait.
A few more minutes went by and they asked to take more shots of Adonis. They took him back and just 10 minutes later they asked me to come into a room to go over the xrays.
The vet came into the room and pulled up the xrays. He explained the fracture hasn't healed like it should given the timeframe. He started to explain why he did a 2nd round of xrays. He stated that in older dogs (Adonis is close to 11) when bones JUST BREAK its a sign of bone cancer and when this happens, if it spreads, it starts for the lung area. That's when he pulled up the 2nd round of xrays showing Adonis' body. He had masses all over internally. My vet recommended a specialists where we could run tests to confirm, but he said he was certain this was the case. I asked if there was anything that they could do for Adonis' leg, but he explained that Adonis would more than likely lose his leg no matter the direction we took.
I have cried since he hurt himself. I have cried even harder with this news. I cry every time I have even the slightest moment to think about it. Now I have to make the decision that's in his best interest... And it hurts so much.
