So my pupper is getting older and my goal is to take her to the beach this summer for the first time. She loves the lake and I KNOW she will love the beach. I live in Kentucky and want to take her to closest dog-friendly beach on the East Coast.
Any suggestions??

My wife and I recently got a dog. So I'm just trying to pick up as much information as possible when it comes to taking care of my new pet.
I recently learned that chocolate can actually be deadly for dog. I was just blown away by this fact.
Are all chocolate pretty much bad for dog? Are there certain types of chocolate that are worse and certain type of chocolate that are not as bad for dog?
What about consumable liquid? Are there any liquid type out there that as harmful to a dog as say chocolate?
What other type of food / consumables are harmful / deadly to dog?
Any other tips would greatly be appreciated, especially tips when it comes to food and consumables.
Thanks.
Hello Folks.
After my whole life of wanting a dog... I find a local rescue, and find a puppy, and get approved.
It's a 14 week old Male "Jack Russell Terrier Mix"
I am a first time dog-owner. While I admit I am highly motivated to do training and go build an obstacle course in the backyard, my family unit and I are mostly couch-potatoes outside of occasional nature outings etc.
I've watched Dogs 101. Read C.R.Brown "An Owners Guide to... JRT" and looked at numerous websites for breed traits and temperaments.
It looks like the JRT is an independent dog. While possessing velcro traits... It seems to still be inherently independent.
This coupled with the high-energy makes me concerned that it's the wrong dog for our family unit.
The breed that seems to fit best with our family unit is Boston Terrier (Low Energy. Velcro. Good Family Dog. Quiet)
I'm just lost.
Thank you for reading this drivel.
Alright. My dad finally cracked and said yes to us getting a dog. I have always wanted a dog, since I was a little kid. I have such a heart for animals. I have done a ton of research on tons of different breeds, I work as a vet tech and get to ask question/get to see first hand all the different kinds of dogs out there so Im fully aware of what I'm getting into and I'm able to make it happen. This is something I am finally able to make a reality and I'm so happy I get the opportunity to.
But because of that knowledge I'm getting overwhelmed by what kind of pupper to get! So many cute ones! So many need a good home! So what's where you guys come in. Can ya'll help me with some suggestions and perhaps gives some advice to a new soon to be dog owner? I currently have two resident cats that aren't going anywhere (as they're also my babies) so I'm looking to get a breed that's greats with all kinds of animals but aren't to big? Any and all suggestions are welcomed :)

When I was a kid, ALL I wanted was a dog. I petitioned my folks dozens of times about getting one, got my sister involved, did research into foods and walking routes and blah blah blah. My parents eventually made the concession that we would get a cat to see if I could handle the responsibility, and then after that we would see about a dog. I took this as a big win of course, not considering that cats live for over 15 years. 15 years later and that cat is still alive. It's hard to get too mad about that, I still love that cat and to be honest you have to respect how Machiavellian the move is from my parents. They really didn't want a dog. But there was still a gap I would have loved to have been filled by a dog.
We always went to my cousins house every Christmas, and they had a bunch of dogs. One of them was this big Chocolate Labrador that became my favourite part of going up there for Christmas really quickly. It was the kind of dog that liked playing fetch, but would never actually give you the ball back, so you had to chase it around for ages so you could throw it again. For that reason, I was the only person who could be bothered to actually play fetch with it as far as I know. But we'd play for hours every day doing that, and I genuinely believe that dog was excited to see me every year. I mean it was excited to see everyone, but he did this little dance specifically when he saw me that I noticed he didn't do with other people.
Anyways, this dog is about 12 years old now, and when I went up for Christmas last year I noticed that he was ALOT slower chasing the balls I'd throw. Not that long ago, he was way to fast for me, I'd only catch him when he'd slow down a little bit for me. But now I can throw the ball and run and beat him to it. He's getting old. It dawned on me that he's going to die soon. And I'm moving overseas in a couple of months, I'm probably not going to see him again.
I only had this thought for the first time the other day, and I just broke down crying. And I'm not really crier. And he's not even my dog! Probably only met this dog like 20 times in it's 12 year life. But wow, it's really rocked me. Don't know if there's any point in my writing this, just thought it might be cathartic to write about.
His name is Wal.

how many dogs are riding in cars that we don't even know about because we can't see them without the window being down. Depressing just to think about, I can be having the worst day & see a floofer in someone else's car & instantly have a better day. Not really a vent as much as just a thought.
Not sure if right place to post this but just need some advice. We have the sweetest friendliest 7 month old amstaff puppy and decided to foster our friends 2yr old husky for 6 months untill they find a place that can accommodate themselves and the husky overseas. They have separate crates. First night at about 1am after letting them out to pee the amstaff tried to get int the huskys crate. The husky ran in and got territorial and chased her out. Now the amstaff is scared to go into her own crate Dogs are fine playing together in the garden however the husky is now not letting the amstaff enter the house. The amstaff is now getting too scared to come into the house , we have to carry her in .
The husky has been at a rescue for a few months so our thoughts are that she is very unsure of her surroundings and unsure of us and the other dog. They were fine together on a walk this morning even trying to play again.
We have blocked off the yard so they are separate during the day whilst we are away.
We are just really scared that our amstaff is going to be traumatized and bullied.
Advice from family is that it will take a while for the husky to settle and this behavior should stop. It is just really upsetting and the moment and we feel like we've made a huge mistake.
We also realize that we probably are worrying too much about our puppy and the husky should be the priority at the moment. Our house is quite small so is hard to not be surrounded by tense doggos
Please help?
EDIT if anyone knows an appropriate thread to post this on please let me know ( very new to reddit)

As a renter I'm required to have a policy on my Jack Russell. They are saying that the policy must be for 500,000. I have searched high & low and only have found any that go up to 300,000. Does anyone have any suggested companies that I missed in my seach of the web. Thanks!
