Rescue dog not peeing and other strange behavior. Please HELP!
I just adopted a husky who I was told was both crate trained, house broken, and unusually mellow for a husky. I knew that despite the fact that she is trained, the new environment will still confuse her and I knew I'd probably have to work with her to be house broken in my own home. But...
She does not like to pee or poop in front of me. I've had her 5 days and she only goes in front of me when she's desperate I guess. And the only time I can get her to go is odd times like 3 am or 5 am. And I take her out a LOT. We go on long walks several times and nothing. I give her space on her leash, try not to look at her, take her to spots where I know dogs have peed before so she can smell it, positive reinforcement those few times that she did go, etc. nothing is sticking.
Now that I've gone back to work, she peed and pooped a little in her crate. She also chewed her martingale collar off. I'm going to take her bed/towels out so she doesn't smell it in her crate and do it again.
I grew up having several dogs and even worked with shelter dogs in a volunteer role for a year. I'm stumped. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks :)
